Before the night
FAQ
The questions couples and planners usually ask before they book.
What do you actually play?
The usual night is a modern ceilidh, then a covers set. Traditional dances are played on modern pop and rock, so a set can land on a chorus the room already knows, then a full covers set of pop, rock, funk and soul. You can have as much or as little of each as you want. A traditional ceilidh with traditional music is the option if you would rather the old dances.
Do you use backing tracks?
No. Vocals, accordion, keys, guitar, bass and drums are played live.
Can we choose the songs?
Send the must-plays and the do-not-plays and we will take them on board. We do not build a tailored setlist for each night. The band plays what is current and what works best with the crowd in the room.
Will you call the ceilidh?
Dances are called and walked through on the night, so first-timers and old hands can share the same set. If the floor needs a bit more help, the band will come down and join the guests to show the steps.
How long do you play?
A standard performance is usually 8pm until midnight, with a 30-minute break. The band needs about 60 minutes to set up, sometimes longer depending on access, and will get in as quickly as the room allows. An earlier start, a later finish, or a longer night can be arranged, all subject to additional fees.
Can you play the ceremony or drinks reception?
Yes. An acoustic ceremony set and an acoustic drinks reception are both optional add-ons, quoted to the event.
What space and power do you need?
A clear performance area, access for load-in, and a standard power supply. Tell the agent the room and we will flag anything tight before the day.
Do you bring sound and lighting?
A full professional PA and a show-lighting rig come with the band. Speeches microphone hire, extra lighting tailored to the room, and any other hired kit are at an additional cost.
Where do you play?
Weddings, corporate events and parties. The band travels when the booking calls for it. Travel costs should be discussed with Elite Bands.
How do we book?
Bookings run through Elite Bands. Use Book now, or write to contact@whiskysling.com with the date, venue and how you want the evening built.
